The Dam House History - Built in 1851 by the Richardson Family, this farm originally included 50 acres. When the flood control dam was built in 1950, the property was reduced to 1.6 acres that is now surrounded by 1200 acres of protected land. Richardson Road dead ends at the boat landing which is closed and blocked off from November to April, leaving the Dam House and one other neighbor in a private location. Old stonewalls, herding paths, and natural bridge abutment across the Nubanusit Brook to the island where cows were grazed remain from the farm period. The swimming/fishing hole and miles of hiking trails are reminders of the many years The Dam House was used as a summer retreat. |
